Dr. Gosby King

Dr. Gosby King, Jr.,Ed.D, M.A., LPC, NCC has over thirty-nine years of education, training, research and clinical experience in the fields of psychology and counseling. Dr. King received a Bachelors of Arts degree from Bishop College; and a Masters Degree in Minority Mental Health and pursued a doctoral degree in experimental social psychology at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. After returning to his home state of Texas he pursued and earned a doctoral degree in counseling from Texas A & M University at Commerce. He is currently a Licensed Professional Counselor and has National Board Certification. He is the founder and CEO of Southwest Behavioral Systems, Inc, Southwest Behavioral Systems, Inc., founded in 1990, is a community based multi-specialty clinic providing outpatient mental health and substance treatment services. Prior to establishing Southwest Behavioral Systems, Inc. Dr. King entered the financial services industry in 1988 and achieved great success. He is currently holds insurance and securities license and he continues to provide financial services. Dr. King believes that assisting people to achieve financial independence is as important as providing psychotherapeutic services. As a provider of employee assistance services, Dr. King has experienced the tremendous need of clients for financial counseling as well as other life challenges. From the very beginning of his educational journey, Dr. King has sought to learn and understand the unique mental health issues of African Americans. OPD-I: What All African Americans Need to Know is the result of over thirty-five years of constant research and clinical practice. Dr. King believes this work has finally produced an accurate diagnostic label and a sound theoretical framework that describes, explain and even provide an effective approach for healing African Americans from generations of oppression and anguish. The establishment of this work provides a roadmap to successfully reverse the psychological effects of slavery.
